Meet Beverly Sibanda. In her circles she is known as one of Zimbabwe's most successful adult entertainers. Can I be honest for a second? I actually didn't even know that there was an adult entertainment business in Zim, let alone successful people in it. I guess you learn something new everyday! Back to Beverly though... the 21 year old Harare based stripper landed herself back in the headlines this week after releasing an interesting video.

The mom of one claims that the po-po questioned her overnight about her pole dancing moves and while in custody she says the authorities forced her to dance for them. Really now? Toni Braxton and her sisters were introduced to the music scene in 1990. Signed to ARISTA records the clan released a single that we all have never heard about. I mean it flopped in the masses. They girls were passed on from Arista to a pair of producers behind a new label called LaFace. After their lackluster sales the Braxton sisters were dropped from their label - with the exception of Toni Braxton. The producers, LA Reid and Babyface signed Toni to a solo deal and they started working with her in 1993

She says she could never accept it and feel comfortable. So she hired her sisters as background singers and put them on payroll. She even pushed LaFace Records to sign her sisters. As we all know their album "The Braxtons" peaked at 113 on the charts and flopped majorly.

"I'm 5'2 and nothing about me is sexy, meaning I don't have great legs or great boobies but Ive always wanted to be sexy. I always felt sexy deep down inside" says the pint sized singer. In June of 1996 her album Secrets was released and she was finally able to unleash her sexy side.

Toni says when she first heard "Unbreak My Heart" she hated it. LA Reid convinced her to do the song and the ballad became second highest selling single by a female artist in history. It spent a whooping 11 weeks at # 1.
Her deal was a slave contract
By the end of 1997 Toni had sold over twenty million records, you would think she was sitting on racks on racks on racks. That couldn't be further from the truth. Her first royalty statement was for a whooping $2,000. "Her deal was a beginner's deal, I call it a slave contract" says her former manager. Heavy promotion and overhead costs included in her contract made it impossible for her to turn a profit. "When they put you in those limos and give you those wonderful dresses, it's all recouped- meaning they get their money back and when you get what's left" a broke Toni Braxton says. So you see, you might have more money than your favorite singer.

This put her at odd with mentors- LA Reid and Babyface.Speaking about the situation for the first time, Babyface says that the deal with Toni was a joint venture with Arista so they couldn't do anything about it. Oprah was so mean to me
Toni says she felt like when she was on the Oprah Winfrey reprimanded her. In an appearance on the talk queen's hit show Mama O said " I heard you have Gucci flatware- I'm Oprah Winfrey and I don't have Gucci flatware". Sorry Toni, I'm with Mama O on this. If you have no money to pay your bills why are buying Gucci flatware? Toni says that moment completely changed her career and made people look down on her. Welp..
We Found Love in a Hopeless Place
After 2 years of dating, Toni and Keri Lewis from Mint Condition got married in April of 2001. Not long after that (seven months to be exact) she gave birth to her son Denim. On the work front she renegotiated a deal with ARISTA for 20 million dollars. Good for her! Obviously after going through a legal case to get her money, her relationship with LA Reid and Babyface also started to deteriorate.
Don't Call it a Comeback
In early 2002, 34 year old Toni became pregnant with her second child. She says the label was upset and they looked at her pregnancy as a disease. Due to high tension and pregnancy - the album only sold 500,000. In April 2003, Toni decided that she wanted out of her contract with LaFace. Hindsight is 20/20 because she says now she should have taken the time to call LA. Looking back she acknowledges that she ruined her professional relationship with them.
Autism & Lupus Strike
Approaching 40 with 2 children to support Toni decided to shakeup her professional career. She moved to Vegas to do a nightly show at the Flamingo Hotel with her sisters during background singing. During her 2 years in Vegas Toni found out that her son Diezel had autism. And to make matters worse in April of 2008 she was also diagnosed with Lupus - an autoimmune disease that slowly attacks the body's organs.
Not Again Toni
After her diagnosis, Toni was bed ridden and had to cancel the remaining shows. When the insurance company refused to cover the losses, Toni was sued by all the vendors affiliated with the show. She had to file bankruptcy again cause she couldnt afford to pay all the creditors.With the mounting finaccial and health woes- Toni's personal life suffered too. Toni and Keri separated but decided no to divorce for the sake of their children. Hmm they still ain't divorced...I don't think it for the children's sake anymore. Just get back together already!
Braxton Family Values
In 2011, she made another bold career move by agreeing to appear in a reality show. It was Toni's way of making good on her promise she made years ago to help her sisters build their own careers."She put us on this platform to make sure that we can follow our dreams" says sis Traci Braxton. In early 2012 Toni recorded new music for the first time in 3 years and her single "I heart you" reached # 1 on the dance charts.
Aww such a happy ending! I applaud Toni for being so honest about her story. Lawd knows it is embarassing to have to file for bankruptcy twice. I might not have told you guys that! Just kidding! Thoughts on her Behind the Music?

From stripper in Atlanta to Hollywood actress! CONGRATS Nene!!
I have to tell ya, Oprah's life class is SUPER awesome. I am a fan of ratchet TV, yes I watch Basketball Wives and Love & Hip Hop but every now and then I need my soul cleansed. Enter O and Joel Osteen's life class. The show on OWN aired last week Sunday and the lesson was all about 'The power of 'I am'- whatever follows I am will follow you". The question posed to the audience was "how are you inviting the energy into your life"? Check out my list of the most memorable 14 quotes from the Life Class from both Oprah and Joel Osteen.

So the story goes that Elizabeth Tsvangirai, the 35-year-old wife of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai experienced what could be defined as every speaker's worst nightmare. According to my friends over at New Zimbabwe, Liz was giving a speech at the Thokozani Khuphe Cancer Foundation and got stuck on word the REITERATE. Friends, she pronounced the word every which way except the right way. Dang, this so funny, at least she tried though. To her defense public speaking ain't no joke, I know Michelle Obama makes it look easy but it ain't. Just ask my girl Liz!

People often talk (both good and bad) about black women wearing wigs and weaves but rarely do we ever talk about our white sisters having extensions in their hair. Well Britney Spears is clearly on a path to change that. Albeit indirectly but the story still remains the same.
Now the uproar over the cover wasn't just noticed by me, legions of Britney's fans lashed out at Lucky Magazine- so much so that the publication had to say something. Staffers at the mag apologized to fans, saying: "Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on our cover! As always, we will share with our team and we're sorry to have let some of you down."

| Britney Spear is not a first time hair offender To be fair. we can't blame Lucky magazine 100% for this hair travesty. The mom of 2 has been a long time weave offender. The no.1 rule for wearing weaves is to never let your tracks show., it defeats the whole purpose of making the hair seem as if it's growing out of your scalp. Plus it's just tacky! The singer clearly has no regard for this and has been showing the world her tracks for a few years. For someone who makes millions of dollars, there is no excuse for all this mess. |

You can read the entire article here for all interesting tidbits but what caught my eye was Michelle Obama's ASOS Africa skirt! How cute is it? Too bad it's sold out! Do you like it?

While going through my DVR this weekend, I came across an interesting topic on a US chat show. According to a doctor who appeared on "The View" you can actually lose weight without diet and exercise by taking a few pills or natural herbs from around the world. Hmmm interesting. So I just thought I would share them with you guys and get your feedback

I could probably come up with a 1,000 reasons why the 'The Houston's: On Our Own" reality show is quite possibly the worst idea ever. Truthfully the 30 minute spectacle leaves a LOT to be desired. People Magazine may have put it best when they described it as "the epitome of too soon". Guys, it hasn't even been a year since Whitney died and her family is also clearly capitalizing on her death by any means necessary. After watching the first 2 episodes tonight check out the 5 reasons I believe Whitney Houston's family have a reality show is no bueno:
1) Bobby Kristina
Bobby Kristina is clearly still grieving. And understandably so, the world lost an iconic singer and she was tragically robbed of her only mother. In both episodes tonight, you could clearly tell that Krissy was under some type of influence. Y'all, baby girl was as high as a kite. I'm talking slurring her speech & eyes barely open type of thing. It's not an entirely outlandish idea that she would turn to drinking to get through her loss (considering Whitney let her drink) but does she need the cameras in her face capturing all of this three months after her Mom's passing? I don't think so..
2) Cissy ain't into it
The family made their publicity rounds in NYC to promote the show this week and one of their stops was on the US chat show 'The View'. Barbara Walters cut straight to the chase and asked Cissy about appearing uneasy about being on the show and whether or not the she had any trepidation about having the cameras follow her around. The Houston matriarch answered that she wasn't crazy about doing the show but that she was doing just to support her family. C'mon now, Cissy is 79, is this really how her family wants her to spend her golden years? Tsk tsk
3)The show really has the wrong title
The show really shouldn't be called "The Houston's: On Our Own" It should be re-named the Bobby Kristina show. The first episode was squarely focused on her. Again it begs the question, how is this helping the 19 year old move forward? It felt so eery watching the cameras follow Krissy to her Mother's grave site just weeks her untimely death.I actually felt very uncomfortable watching that, it's just too soon. Her grieving process is not any of our business, I wish the Houston family could see that. Let her talk about it once she's over it. Right now the cut is so fresh and raw..it's just painful to watch.
4) A generational curse
Folks did you ever watch the reality show that Krissy's parents starred in? The 'Being Bobby Brown' was a huge cash cow for the Bravo channel.Bobby Brown was supposed to be star of the show but Whitney's erratic and drug filled antics made the show a cult classic. It was like watching a train wreck, you just couldnt bare to look away.. The same can be said for the 'Houston's' show.
5) Nick Gordon
24 year old Nick Gordon is Bobby Kris's adopted brother/boyfriend/fiance. The pair is allegedly engaged to be married and they live together in the house that they shared with Whitney Houston. So get this guys, the ring that Nick used to propose to Krissy was her mother's ring. Dude, you cant even buy your own ring to propose? Please have several seats. He strikes me as a shady character that is clearly taking advantage of a situation gone awry. Cissy put it best when she said " I don't know Nick that well, let us pray that everyone will find their way". What a dang gone shame!
In the age of reality shows where people over share everything some things are better left to deal with in private.

The Grammy award winner was on the Wendy Williams show today and she opened up about the last time she spoke to Whitney Houston and the advice Whitney gave her. I still can't believe Whitney is gone right? Wendy then played a game called Fave Five with Brandy, which entailed finding out what her favorite date was with her boyfriend Ryan, what her favorite Whitney song is and how she likes to wear her hair!
